This Week on the Green

The Green River is fishing right in its late summer sweet spot. Cold, clear tailwater off Flaming Gorge Dam, steady flows around 1,600 CFS, and a full late summer hatch cycle are lining up for strong morning and evening dry fly windows with productive nymphing all day.

Below you will find the current dam release status, water temperatures and clarity, active hatches, our recommended fly box, and a full tactical breakdown of Sections A, B, and C. Flows are swift and the water stays cold, so floating with a guide is the most productive and safest way to cover water this week.

Current Dam Release Status

Dam Discharge
~1,600 CFS stable baseflow pattern with hourly fluctuations for power generation.
Reservoir Elevation

Much below average inflows for August and September. Expect stable but occasionally swift tailwater conditions.
Operational Outlook
Flows will remain consistent with predictable daily fluctuations. The tailwater stays cold, clear, and ideal for trout activity.

Water Temperature, Clarity and River Conditions

Green River Below Dam
59°F verified August 3. A near perfect temperature for active trout feeding, with strong dry fly windows morning and evening and excellent nymphing throughout the day.
Clarity
Good with 8 to 15 ft visibility typical.
River Behavior
Stable flows create predictable seams. Wading is possible in select soft water pockets, though floating is strongly preferred. Afternoon winds may affect dry fly drift.
