Green River Sections, Current Fly Patterns
**Sections A, B, and C**
The Green River is divided into three sections, each with its own unique characteristics:
1. **Section A**: Just below Flaming Gorge Dam, this stretch is ideal for streamer fishing. Regardless of flow, streamers consistently produce results. Our fly fishing Guides have reported success using #20 PMDs, caddis, and Yellow Sally dries and nymphs.
2. **Section B**: Known for its untouched natural beauty, Section B offers excellent dry fly fishing opportunities. Terrestrial insects thrive here, making it a haven for trout. Dry flies in sizes 12-22, such as the Adams, Elk Caddis, Stimulator (black), and Parachute Adams, work wonders.
3. **Section C**: The lower section of the Green River is perfect for streamer fishing. Trophy-size trout await, and the river’s gin-clear waters provide an exhilarating experience.
**Fly Patterns**
Our local guides recommend these additional following fly patterns:
– **Nymphs**: Try the Frenchie (#16), an attractor nymph developed by Lance Egan. It sinks quickly and works well as a dry/dropper pattern.
– **Dry Flies**: Opt for sizes 12-22. The classic Adams fly is a top choice, along with Elk Caddis, Stimulator (black), and Parachute Adams. Black, dark olive, and brown variations are effective.
– **Streamers**: Experiment with various streamer patterns. Woolly Buggers, Sculpins, and Zonkers are popular choices.
